We recommend starting this style with freshly-washed, wet hair. If you’re in a hurry with no time to wash your hair, just spritz it with water until it’s damp before adding product.
Step 1
Start by smoothing and moisturizing your hair with TRESemmé One Step 5-in-1 Smoothing Cream. This will prevent your style from succumbing to frustrating frizz, while adding softness and shine to your strands.
Step 2
Create a center part down the middle of the hair using a tail comb with a metal tip, then apply TRESemmé Flawless Curls Moisturizing Mousse throughout the hair and hairline. This mousse is ideal for curly or wavy hair to really enhance your natural texture, but is also great for straighter hair to add much-needed moisture and frizz control – without any crunchiness.
Stylist tip: Apply mousse around the part to identify any fine hairs that prevent the part from being straight. You want an extremely straight part for this style!
Step 3
Blow-dry your hair straight with a paddle brush. Alternatively, if you’d rather wear this style wavy, go ahead and blow-dry with a diffuser attachment, scrunching your hair to define the waves as you go.
Once completely dry, section your hair, starting at the crown (where the center part is), going vertically down the side of the head and ending on the top part of the ears on both sides of the head. These front sections will form your rope braids.
Step 4
Take the two sections and twist them backwards, meeting in the middle of the back of your head. Secure them together with a clear elastic or an elastic color that best matches your hair color.
If you have thick hair, you may want to use larger sections.
If wearing the style more casual and wavy, use the metal tip of your comb to loosen out parts of your twists, like you would with a fishtail braid.
Stylist tip: For a perfectly polished finish, add a pump of TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Serum to the palm of your hand. Rub your palms together and smooth through the ends and mid-shaft of your strands. Use less for fine hair, more for thick hair.
Step 5
Time for the finishing touch. Elevate your look by adding a bow or ribbon to the back of your head where the braids meet. And now you’re ready to step out in style!
