Get runway-ready glossy waves at home

We all love a slick up 'do that emphasizes the cheekbones and is so easy to wear. But sometimes it just feels good to let loose with your hair. That’s where glossy waves come in. Give them just the right amount of tousle and shine, and you’ve landed a look fresh off the runways.

So, how can you pull off this effortlessly polished look off without a visit to the hair salon? We asked expert hairstylist Ryan Trygstad for his pro tips on how to get gorgeous waves at home. Read on to see how he styles long-lasting looks for the models backstage, using products from the TRESemmé Runway Collection.

Step 1: Begin with damp hair. Apply Make Waves Shaping Gel from root to tip using your fingers. Formulated with sunflower seed and jojoba oil, it gives hold and control for bouncy, beautiful waves.

Step 2: Now it’s time to dry. Use a blow dryer with a diffuser and, taking medium-size sections of hair, dry from root to tip horizontally. You can use a round brush or your fingers to section hair – whichever works best.

Step 3: Using a curling wand, wrap sections of your hair around the wand, curling away from your face. As you finish curling, fix each section with a clip to help hold the curl. Once you’ve finished, allow your hair to cool (about half an hour should suffice) to set your waves. Once your hair has cooled down, it’s time to remove the clips. Use your fingers or a soft bristle brush to gently loosen each curl, working from the base of your neck upwards (this way, you can see what you’re doing!).

Step 4: Now you’ll turn the curls into full, bouncy waves. Squeeze a small amount (about the size of a quarter) of Make Waves Shine Enhancing Cream into your palm and rub your hands together – this lightweight cream gives you natural definition and control. Gently rake through your hair with your fingers to break up the curls. Tip: For extra volume, tease around your crown, just at the roots.

Step 5: To set the look and prevent your natural-looking waves from falling flat, apply a fine mist of hair spray to secure your stye.
