How to style a chic chignon

When you think special occasion, you think classic chic chignon. Its timeless glamor has made it popular with brides and bridesmaids everywhere. But you needn’t wait for the big day; this style works just as well for a classy everyday look.

How to do a chignon style: tutorial

One of the great things about learning how to do a chignon is that you’ll quickly realize how easy it is to achieve. We’ll show you how to perfect this classic style in just four simple steps.

Step 1: Wash and dry

All good styles start with a good wash. Take a luxurious shower with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner to nourish your hair and provide a frizz-free foundation. After your shower, use a microfiber towel to gently squeeze excess water from your hair and detangle with a wide-toothed comb.

Before you get busy with the blow-dryer, be sure to spray your wet hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Defense Spray to prevent damage and frizz. Then, blow-dry your hair, encouraging any natural waves to come through – a diffuser attachment is a good way to achieve this.

Stylist tip: Did you know that shampooing twice when you wash your hair can make it last longer in between washes?

Step 2: Style time

Once your hair is dry, it’s time to get styling!

Part your hair in the center and separate it into three sections. Tie a hair tie around the middle section to create a low pony at the nape of your neck. Twist the front two sections inwards towards the base of your ponytail and secure in place with bobby pins.

Step 3: Twist and shout

Now, take the ponytail along with the twisted side sections and twist it all into a loose bun at the nape of your neck and secure it in place. Don’t worry about making the bun look perfect; this style is supposed to look loose and natural.

Stylist tip: Before you create the bun, spray your hair with TRESemmé Volume Clean Dry Shampoo and tease your ponytail for added texture.

Step 4: The grand finale

Finish up with a good spray of TRESemmé TRES TWO Extra Hold Hair Spray for maximum hold, frizz control and no stiffness. Finishing with hairspray will help your classy chignon last longer, so you can stay looking elegant all day long.
